Book Review: "Wonderfully Made", by Kaitlyn Derosiers & Megan McBryde

Updated: Nov 21, 2021

Wonderfully Made is written by sisters, Kaitlyn Derosiers & Megan McBryde. This book is a beautiful celebration of family and all the things that may make it unique. Sisters, Katie and Tessa come from a family where their mother’s skin is “as sweet as an apricot on a warm spring day,” and whose father’s skin is “as comforting as hot chocolate on a cold snowy day.”

They understand that some people may be confused by their parents’ differences, but, to them, they are simply Mom and Dad- each sister a remarkable combination of the two.

Whether it’s learning how to make crepes with their mom’s parents or learning the rich history of their father’s family living in the South, it is evident that these sisters are proud of their heritage and family tree. They enthusiastically explain to their classmates that they love all the things about their family and that though it may not look like it, they all fit together just fine. After all, their family made them who they are, and they are “wonderfully made”.

The lasting message is that we are ALL wonderfully made.

This book’s engaging and vibrant illustrations coupled with the eloquently told story, makes it a must read.

🌟Representation matters not only to see yourself but to see, learn and appreciate those who are different.🌟
